Sega Sonic the Hedgehog is an arcade game developed and published by Sega which was only released in Japan. In the game, Ray the Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo accompany Sonic while making their gaming debut. The game consists of seven stages: Volcanic Vault, Icy Isle, Desert Dodge, Trap Tower, Landslide Limbo, Wild Water Way, and Eggman's Tower. Like most Sonic games, you need to have rings to survive.

Plot[]

After the events of the destruction of the Death Egg, Dr. Eggman is furious and seeks revenge from the blue blur. He creates an island prison and captures Sonic and his two buddies, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. The trio manages to break out of the cell they were put in, but immediately after their escape, they get launched to the other side of the island. Sonic, along with his fellow teammates, get across the island through dangerous traps and get to Eggman's new home turf, Eggman's Tower. Before the three can get the chance to defeat the evil scientist once and for all, Eggman escapes and sets the tower to self-destruct. Sonic, Ray, and Mighty flee the tower in the ten seconds they have before the blast while Eggman escapes to get started on his next devious scheme.

Settings[]

  • The difficulty can be set from 1-4, 4 being the hardest.
  • With a jump-in feature, 1-3 players can play as Sonic, Mighty, and Ray.
  • Player 1 is Sonic, Player 2 is Mighty, Player 3 is Ray.
  • There are seven stages and one boss.

 Mighty and Ray[]

Mighty and Ray later appeared in the Archie Sonic Comics as members of the Chaotix, and Mighty appeared in the Genesis game Knuckles Chaotix. Knuckles Chaotix marked their last appearance in Sonic games. After Sega completed a survey, they found out that Mighty was still a really popular character. This meant a possible return for Mighty, but when he didn't make an appearance in the next Sonic game, it could be predicted that Mighty wouldn't make an appearance after all.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Sonic game to have a zone with ice in it.
  • This game is the first time Mighty and Ray made an appearance.
  • Unlike the other Sonic games, this one didn't have any of Eggman's robots (sometimes called "badniks").
